Challenge:

Wood trim mouldings are used to provide visual detail to exterior structures; however, they can rot, bow and decay while needing regular maintenance. A manufacturer asked Chelsea Building Products to develop a cellular PVC moulding solution to reduce the cost of laminating and milling boards into mouldings.

Solution:

Chelsea developed an extruded cellular PVC moulding product line to replace wooden millwork, incorporating a weatherable material that does not rot or warp and is insect resistant. It has a consistent cell structure throughout the profile, and cuts, fastens and finishes like wood. Extruded cellular PVC mouldings offer uniformity and durability, making it an attractive alternative to wood and is easy to install and maintain. It has a unique surface finish that looks like painted wood; therefore, it does not need to be painted – but it can be if desired.
